Brittany + Ron (9.19.20)

September 19, 2020 was a beautiful day full of sunflowers and smiles if you were at The Retreat at Hiawassee River. Brittany and Ron got married in March 2020 but didn’t get to have their big ceremony due to COVID. The party was moved to September and we are so thankful that we got to be a part of it.

The Retreat at Hiawassee River is a beautiful venue in the north Georgia mountains, not far from shops and restaurants, but just far enough to feel peace and seclusion.

It is a great venue for couples who have out-of-town guests because they have a number of cabins for overnight stays. Brittany and Ron had quite a few out-of-town guests, coming from Louisiana, Florida, Michigan, and other states! It was like a wedding and reunion all in one.

The bridesmaids wore navy gowns and sported denim jackets for their photos with the bride. Brittany looked stunning in her long sleeve gown with floral detailing. The bright sunflowers popped in front of the dresses and made for some lovely pictures. The groomsmen wore jeans, navy vests, and boots to tie in their southern roots.

Xxavier with Rivet Events did a great job of showing how beautifully thought out every detail was. Brittany created custom blankets, Harry Potter themed programs, and had a sweet finger print tree as the guest book. They even had a frame set up where they hung little notes that Ron wrote to Brittany daily.

The ceremony was small but there was no lack of love in the air that evening. Not only was it clear the love Brittany and Ron have for each other, but it was also clear how much love their families have for them. The couple included a ring warming ceremony where the rings were passed around in a box for guests to hold with prayers and well wishes. Following the ceremony was the first dance and dances with parents that were so sweet, and toasts that were very heartfelt.

Sugar’s Cakes did a wonderful job with the barbecue dinner and the fun cocktail hour menu. The couple had three specific requests for cocktail hour. They wanted to have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, deviled eggs, and egg rolls. You wouldn’t usually think of these items going together, but the coolest part of a wedding is how the couple expresses their likes! Their favors also gave us a glimpse into their likes. Set out on the bar labeled “her favorite,” and “his favorite,” were jars of popcorn and bottles of hot sauce.

We love it when couples show their personality through things such as the favors, music, and cakes! The cakes were made by Ron’s stepfather and fit in beautifully with the design of the wedding. The groom’s cake was Harry Potter themed to go along with the cute Harry Potter programs. The wedding cake was a three-tiered Hummingbird cake with a Harry Potter topper and sunflowers to accent.

Guests enjoyed cake, danced, and goofed off in the photo booth until the night winded down. At the end of the night everyone headed off to their cabins to prepare for the long journeys to come in the morning.
